Mid Term Submission

When designing the cover I wanted to go simple. Just a portrait that focused on the beauty of my model. Nothing too extravagant, because then it becomes too much for the readers eyes. Especially when there are all of the headings/captions on the cover as well. When deciding what to captions to put on the cover, I wanted only the exciting one that will grab the readers attention. Too many just looks messy. They included the article titles that I thought would relate to the most readers, and would entice them to look through the issue of Fashion Forward SRQ.

I chose to go with the most common themes that I saw in fashion magazines when I was doing research. The topics of beauty, fashion, love, and horoscopes, along with some political pieces were very popular in the different issues I researched. I wanted to incorporate them into my magazine because they fit into the criteria well and would sell my magazine if it were for sale. Not to mention are broad topics that have a lot to write about, and take pictures of.

When writing my article I chose a piece that would focus on a strong role model in the community. I chose Lily Sikorski. She is a female golfer that also does good in the community. The purpose of writing it and not something for traditional is to inspire the reader and help there confidence. To me that is the goal of a fashion magazine. To make the reader more confident, and feel good in there own skin. So this articles is used to motivate every girl and boy that reads it to become a leader.

I chose a picture of the Eiffel Tower for the table of contents because Paris is the fashion capital of the world. With this being a fashion magazine, I thought it fit in well. Not to mention, on my flat plan I created an article entitled, "Best Vacation Spots in Europe." If I were to actually write that article, I would put Paris on my list. I visited Europe last summer, so I would defiantly put Paris on my list. That is when I took the picture.

The layouts of all of my pages were simplistic. The reason is so the reader would focus on the pictures and articles. Sometimes there needs to be less for more. This was one of those instances. It would have been too much for the eye if I were to have gone crazy in the editing process and adding all of the captions and pictures. I chose just to put the most appealing articles and pictures on each page to get the reader to pick it up, but not get bored. I put all of the captions in the empty spaces. There was not too much going on, by overlapping them.
